GREENVILLE, S.C. - Jada Sullivan scored 16 points and Marcus Garrett poured in 13 as Hillcrest held off the North Augusta Yellow Jackets with a 54-51 win in the first round of the Class AAAA State playoffs Tuesday.
Hillcrest held a slight 27-23 lead at the break. Junior Quinton Ferrell led the Yellow Jackets attack with 21 points while freshman Henri Perry chipped in 16 points.
Although North Augusta (13-8) was able to keep pace with Hillcrest (16-9), the Yellow Jackets were never able to push ahead.
The Yellow Jackets were making an appearance in the state playoffs after the team had been put on probation for violating summer practice rules. North Augusta was notified in the middle of February that their appeal to participate in the playoffs had been approved, opening the door for second-year coach Keith Arrington and the Yellow Jackets.
Hillcrest will now travel to face No. 2 Spartanburg on Thursday while North Augusta's season is over.
In other state playoff action, Woodmont defeated Batesburg-Leesville 77-61 in Class AA Upper State play while Allendale-Fairfax lost to Garrett Tech, 76-56. In Class A Upper State, Denmark-Olar beat Buford 53-43 and Estill dropped to Great Falls 68-63.
