Bush representative to visit Augusta

Stephen Goldsmith, a representative from President George W. Bush's faith-based initiative, will visit Augusta to facilitate a town meeting at downtown's St. Paul's Episcopal Church 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Saturday, according to Mayor Bob Young's office.

Mr. Goldsmith is an appointee to the Federal Corporation for National Service board, the group charged with overseeing a new presidential initiative to involve faith-based and non-profit organizations in national volunteer programs. Mr. Goldsmith will discuss that initiative and its efforts to simplify charitable work for religious and other non-governmental groups with Augusta area pastors and nonprofit groups during the town meeting, which is open to the public on a first-come first-served basis.

Mr. Goldsmith is the former mayor of Indianapolis and a lead adviser to the president on domestic issues. He also is scheduled to attend Mayor Bob Young's Third Annual Mayor's Ball at Sacred Heart Cultural Arts Center tonight.
