State playoffs start for Georgia teams



The prep basketball postseason is in full swing in Georgia with first round state tournament games.

The Georgia Independent School Association tipped off its first round Wednesday night with girls action.

In GISA Class AAA boys action tonight, Brentwood plays George Walton at 5:30 while Augusta Christian plays Monroe at 7 p.m. The games will be played at First Presbyterian in Macon. Westminster plays at Tattnall Square at 8:30. The games will be played at First Presbyterian in Macon.

In GISA Class AA boys, Curtis Baptist meets Crisp Academy at 4 p.m. at Middle Georgia College while Edmund Burke plays Southwest Georgia at 5:30 p.m.

Georgia public schools begin their first round play this weekend with the Class AAAA tournament at Burke County on Friday. In girls action, Columbus Spencer plays Thomson at 4 p.m. while Glenn Hills will meet Peach County at 7 p.m.

The Butler boys play Peach County at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.

On Saturday, the Glenn Hills boys play Kendrick at 5:30 p.m. while Thomson's boys play Shaw at 8:30 p.m. in the late game. The Hephzibah Lady Rebels meet Shaw at 7 p.m.

The Class AAA first round will be played at Richmond Academy. On Friday, Swainsboro girls play Richmond at 4 p.m., Cross Creek's boys play Swainsboro at 5:30 p.m., Washington County's girls play Liberty County at 7 p.m. while Appling County meets Richmond Academy at 8:30 p.m.

On Saturday, Jefferson County's girls play Appling County at 4 p.m., Westside's boys play Tattnall County at 5:30, the Laney girls play Effingham County at 7 p.m. while Laney's boys play Richmond Hill at 8:30 p.m.

The Jenkins County girls plays Brooks County on Saturday at 4 p.m. in Class AA play at Toombs County.

At Heard County High in Franklin, Warren County boys play Greenforest at 5:30 p.m. while the Aquinas boys meet W.D. Mohammed at 8:30 p.m. on Friday.

The Aquinas girls play Landmark Christian at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
