GREENWOOD, S.C. - The USC Aiken Lady Pacers rebounded from Saturday's 20-point loss to No. 1 Columbus State by defeating Lander 69-44 Wednesday in Peach Belt Conference play.
If USC Aiken 19-6, 13-2) can win its final game of the regular season on Saturday against Georgia College & State University, the Lady Pacers would have their first 20-win season since the 1990-91 season and win their first North Division title.
The sophomore duo of Julie Szabo and Jami Cornwell helped contain Lander (6-20, 2-14) as the two scored 12 and 13 points, respectively, and helped hold the Lady Senators to 15 points in the second half.
The Lady Pacers completed the season sweep of Lander, whom they defeated 75-55 on Feb. 14.
On the men's side, the Pacers continued their downward spiral from atop the North Division with their fifth consecutive loss, dropping a 77-72 contest to the Senators. USC Aiken coach Mike Roberts was ejected with 24 seconds left in the game.
The Senators finished their season-sweep of USC Aiken (14-11, 8-7) with their win. Lander defeated the Pacers 72-69. In their last five losses, USC Aiken has lost by a total of 16 points.
All five starters for Lander (17-8, 11-5) reached double figures in points while Aiken's Chris Robinson scored a game-high 19 points off the bench. Robinson did not start because of a broken nose after being elbowed in the Columbus State game.
