GAINESVILLE, Fla. - Augusta's Vaughn Taylor ended the Meadowbrook Classic like he started it - with a course-record score.
In Sunday's final round of the NGA Hooters Tour event, Taylor matched the course record 7-under-par 63 he shot in the first round, winning the tournament by six shots.
Taylor shot 63-69-64-63 to finish at 21-under-par 259 at the 6,235 yard Meadowbrook Country Club.
"I hit the ball extremely well this week and gave myself a lot of good opportunities for birdies," said Taylor, whose previous Hooters' Tour victory came in Wilmington, N.C., in 1999.
Greg Gregory, who also shot 63 Sunday, tied for second place with Zoran Zorkic. Zorkic, who was tied with Taylor for the lead going into the final round, closed with a 69.
"I went out today and wanted to win the golf tournament and not let anybody give it to me," Taylor said. "Zoran is a good player and I knew he would press me."
Taylor, a former Augusta State star, won $20,000, making him the leading money winner through two Hooters' Tour events this season at $22,750. Taylor tied for fifth place in last week's season opener in Jacksonville, Fla.
