STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. - With 3:20 to play Monday in the Region 4-AAAAA tournament, the Evans Knights trailed Henry County by 12 points.
When the final buzzer sounded, Evans (19-7) advanced to the second round of the region tournament with a 51-48 victory.
Clint McCalla hit a three-point basket with 40 seconds to play to pull the Knights into a tie with the Warhawks. Henry County quickly went ahead by one point before Greg Brown fed McCalla with an assist that led to the winning field goal with 20 seconds to play. Two Evans free throws padded the Knights' final margin.
Before the fourth quarter surge, the Knights had been unable to break the double-figure mark in any of the first three quarters.
Brown led the scoring for Evans with 17 points.
Evans' next game will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Fayette County in Fayetteville, Ga., against the North Clayton-Newnan winner.
