Over the past couple of weeks I have been following the flag controversy going on in Georgia. Many political leaders say they want a flag that doesn't promote racial inequality. They want a flag that unites our state as one.
In my opinion, the black community segregates itself from whites. Just last week I was in the grocery store and noticed a business directory for the black community on the shelf. Imagine a white directory put out, how would the black community view that?
I am a college student constantly searching for scholarships. Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed over 100 awards for African-American students; in my search for white-only I found none. I am not prejudiced anymore than the man who says he is not prejudiced at all. I was born in the '70s, so segregation was not instilled in me, but today it is my opinion that whites should be complaining about racism. We do not have a White History Month, or a White Entertainment Television Channel, but we are labeled as racists. Black and white history are equally important, because it is a part of us all. We should do away with the terms African and white, and just be thankful that we are Americans.
