PORTAL, Ga. - Mr. L. Durden "Bub" Lanier, 76, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2001, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home, Statesboro, with the Revs. James Bellis and David Hudson officiating. Burial will be in Portal City Cemetery.
Mr. Durden, a native of Portal, was an Army veteran of World War II and was a former representative of Portal City Council and a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
The family said: "His life was a shining beacon of Christian love and charity. He will be missed by the many lives that he touched."
Survivors include his wife, Annette Woods Lanier; two daughters, Annie Fred Lanier Nichols and Merlene Lanier Johansen, both of Panama City, Fla.; three brothers, Judson Lanier, Atlanta, Robert Lanier, Statesboro, and Remer Lanier, Savannah; five sisters, Eubie Turner, Audrey Anderson and Ollie Dixon, all of Statesboro, Alva Barford, St. Simons Island, and Cora Lee Dyson, Fayetteville, N.C.; and three grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be L.R. Anderson, Gary Cowart, Randy Lanier, Bob Avra, Kenny Bishop, Toby Carter, Henry Strickland and Monty Graham.
Memorials may be made to: Poplar Springs Baptist Church, Poplar Springs Church Road, Portal, GA 30450.
The family will receive friends at 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.
