Mr. Joel Carpenter



WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Joel M. "Billy" Carpenter, 88, of Anthony Road, died Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at Burke Medical Center.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at DeLoach Funeral Home with the Revs. Henry Erwin and Gene Sheffield and Father Gene Paradise officiating. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery.

Mr. Carpenter, a native of Burke County, had retired as a bookkeeper from Neely and Co. and as an insurance agent from Cotton States Insurance Co. He was a member of Waynesboro Masonic Lodge 274, where he was a 32nd degree Mason; Waynesboro Shrine Club; and First United Methodist Church, where he was an honorary member of Official Board.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Allen Carpenter; three sons, M. Ray Carpenter, Statesboro, Louis C. Carpenter, Waynesboro, and Larry J. Carpenter, Greenville, S.C.; a sister, Sarah C. Alvey, Augusta; and eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Marc Carpenter, Don Smith, Dave Smith, Marty Harris, Sean Carpenter, Jason Carpenter and Joel Carpenter.

Honorary pallbearers will be members of Brinson-Coleman Bible Class of First United Methodist Church.
