AVERA, Ga. - Mr. John H. "Jake" Gipson, 77, of Broad Street, died Thursday, Jan. 25, 2001.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at James Funeral Home, Wrens, with the Rev. David Davis officiating. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
Mr. Gipson, a native of Banks County, was an Army veteran of World War II and had retired as an Exxon station owner. He was a former mayor and fire chief of Avera.
Survivors include his wife, Hilda Gipson; three daughters, Colleen Chalker, Avera, Teresa Williams, Gibson, and Claudia Davis, Martinez; a sister, Lorna Rutland, North Augusta; and 11 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be members of Gibson Masonic Lodge 257.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
