Columbia County players continue to feed Middle Georgia's baseball program.

Evans pitcher Steven Dunham will sign a letter of intent today to play with one of the nation's premier junior college programs next year.

Dunham, who was academically ineligible last season, was one of the area's top pitchers as a sophomore in 1999. The right-hander was the team's ace in 1999 and helped the Knights to a 22-7-1 record and a berth in the second round of the state playoffs.

During the 1999 season, Dunham was 7-2 with 54 strikeouts and a 2.48 ERA and was a member of The Augusta Chronicle's all-area team. He is expected to combine with fellow senior David Steflik on the mound this seasonto produce one of the best pitching combinations in the area.

Josey point guard Tony Mitchell is close to making a decision on where he'll attend college.

The senior, who leads the area in scoring at 22.2 points per game and is second in the area in assists (7.9 per game), is considering Tulane, College of Charleston, Clemson, Georgia State and Georgia Southern.

Tulane coaches scouted Josey's 89-85 double overtime victory over top-ranked Thomson on Tuesday night, when Mitchell scored 25 points, including a 3-point basket with 25 seconds left in double overtime that gave the Eagles the lead for good.

"He shot 3-pointers, he dunked, he did it all and had (Tulane coaches) going crazy," Josey coach Emmett Rouse said of Mitchell's performance Tuesday night.
