Mr. Robert E. "Bob" Stagg Sr., a Proctor & Gamble retiree and civic leader, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2001, at University Hospital. Mr. Stagg, of Evans, was 84.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church with Dr. Jeffrey J. Newlin officiating. Burial will be in Westover Memorial Park.
Mr. Stagg, a native of Louisville, Ky., had attended Colorado College and graduated from Purdue University and was a life member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He had retired as a group manager and plant engineer from Proctor & Gamble. He was a member of the board of directors of Bankers First Corp. and Bankers First Savings Bank and was volunteer director of the National Alliance of Business. He was a member of the board of directors of the Leadership Augusta Program in 1977. He was former president of Augusta Chamber of Commerce; Augusta Kiwanis Club; Augusta Red Cross; Augusta-Richmond County United Way; and University Health Care Foundation, where he was elected director emeritus in 1997. Mr. Stagg was a member of the Richmond County Hospital Authority, Human Relations Commission, Revenue Sharing Board and the board of University Hospital. He was a trustee of the Augusta-Richmond County Library. In 1997, he was made a George F. Hixson Fellow in honor of the Kiwanis IDD program. He was a member of Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Smiley Stagg; a son, Robert Elwood Stagg Jr., Buckhead; a daughter, Sarah French, Lake Lanier; and two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Augusta Kiwanis Club.
