Ed Skinner has resigned as a member of the Augusta Aviation Commission, ending 27 years of public service.
In a one-sentence letter dated Tuesday to Augusta Commissioner Ulmer Bridges, Mr. Skinner asked Mr. Bridges to accept his resignation.
The news comes less than a week after his rival, Marcie Wilhelmi, took over as chairwoman of the commission.
Mr. Skinner was traveling in St. Louis on Wednesday and could not be reached for comment.
Ms. Wilhelmi did not immediately return a phone call seeking comment on Mr. Skinner's resignation.
Mr. Skinner, who had served as commission chairman for the past six years, came close to resigning early last year after the commission voted to fire airport Director Al McDill.
At times, Mr. Skinner's spats with Ms. Wilhelmi threatened to tear the board apart. But in recent months, both strong-willed personalities seemed to have put the past behind them and had begun working together.
In December, the two even had lunch together. Both called it a productive meeting.
