AIKEN - Police investigating the slaying of Jessica Carpenter released a more detailed sketch of a potential witness Monday, again asking the public to study the man's face and help identify him.
The young man is not considered a suspect but investigators want to question him because he was seen loitering at the Speedway convenience store shortly before the killing last August. The store on York Street is around the corner from the victim's Crosland Park home.
The first drawing, which combined surveillance video and witness images, did not result in the man's identification. He is described as 5 feet 8 inches to 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighing 180 to 200 pounds.
Also Monday, the Aiken Department of Public Safety shut down a 24-hour hot-line set up for the case after receiving only a "limited" number of phone calls in a three-week period, said Detective Ray Scott of the department.
Jessica, 17, was found in her home Aug. 4, dead from internal bleeding and lack of oxygen. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Scott at (803) 642-7685.
