Chris Hadden's fishing partner slept in New Year's morning, leaving the Appling man alone in his quest for striped bass at Clarks Hill Lake. Just after 7 a.m., this 35-pound monster took a swing at a live blueback herring being slow-trolled behind the boat, and the battle was on. Hadden, using 12-pound-test line, fought the 43-inch fish almost 30 minutes, using a trolling motor to follow the striper along - and eventually across - a wide cove.
