With only eight forwards healthy, the Lynx on Friday signed free-agent Troy Stevens.
The 28-year-old winger has been out of hockey since last season, when he played for the Tupelo T-Rex and New Mexico Scorpions of the Western Professional Hockey League.
Entering his sixth pro season, Stevens' best year was in 1997-98, when he scored 14 goals and tallied 26 assists with the B.C. Icemen of the United League.
The 5-foot-10, 180-pound Stevens has played parts of three seasons in the ECHL, including 13 games in 1995-96 with the Raleigh IceCaps, who became the Lynx in 1998-99.
MRI for Lambert
Goalie Judd Lambert hasn't made much progress rehabbing his injured right leg and underwent an MRI on Friday to determine the extent of the damage.
Lambert has been out since November with a high ankle sprain, which he suffered while playing for the Providence Bruins of the American Hockey League.
The 26-year-old Lambert returned to Augusta in late December to continue his rehab. He resumed light skating Dec. 22 but still is experiencing pain.
The Lynx hope to have the results of the MRI today, which will give the team a better idea of how close Lambert is to returning.
Some unidentified Lynx at Friday's game vs. Richmond were promising to hang a special banner in the Civic Center tonight to commemorate the relationship former Lynx defenseman Peter Constantine has with his mother.
Insiders say Constantine's mother had a habit of calling former Lynx coach Dan Wiebe, trainer Brian Patafie and others within the organization to check up on her son.
Constantine is one of three former Lynx in the Bulls lineup. Scrappy forward Mark Biesenthal, who helped energize the team upon his signing late in the 1998-99 season, is back in the ECHL after spending last season in the WPHL. Goalie Leeor Shtrom, whom the Lynx traded to Florida for cash over the summer, was released by the Everblades a few weeks into the season before catching on with Birmingham.
