ATLANTA -- Atlanta defenseman Adam Burt will undergo surgery for a herniated disk in his lower back and will be out at least six weeks.
The Thrashers said Dr. Plas James, an orthopedic spinal surgeon, will perform the micro-diskectomy at St. Joseph's Hospital in Atlanta on Friday.
The Thrashers said Wednesday Burt is expected to return in about six weeks and could begin skating as early as 2-3 weeks.
He injured his back in a game against the New York Islanders on Dec. 29 and was placed on injured reserve the next day.
