In the know

BEST BUYS: Today the Augusta Chronicle kicks off Best Buys, a new feature that replaces Price Check, the weekly comparison of goods at area stores that appeared Wednesdays since June 1999.

For Best Buy, we compare sales in the grocery store advertisements inserted in today's newspaper. We highlight prices of identical items when possible.

NOTE: With the exception of Winn-Dixie and Publix, sales apply only to customers who have the store's discount card.

Stores not mentioned under product heading did not advertise an item for sale in that category.

When items are grouped (i.e., 2 for $5), the customer can buy just one and get the sale price ($2.50 each). That also applies at most stores to buy-one, get-one-free offers. For example, if two bags of chips are $4, the customer can buy just one bag for $2. The exception is Winn-Dixie, where shoppers must purchase both items to receive the buy-one, get-one-free discount.
