CAMAK, Ga. - Mr. James F. Whitaker Sr., 81, of Railroad Street, died Monday, Jan. 1, 2001, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Beggs Funeral Home, Thomson, with the Rev. Mike Timmerman officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Thomson.
Mr. Whitaker, a native of Columbia County, had retired as a master mechanic from Georgia Railroad after 35 years. He was an Army veteran of World War II, during which he received a Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of Transportation and Communication Union, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Bethesda Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rachel Crowell Whitaker; two sons, James F. Whitaker Jr. and Ronald Whitaker, both of Thomson; two daughters, Sandra Christine Taylor, Camak, and Carolyn Brewer, Thomson; six sisters, Elizabeth Adams and Faye Radford Kitchens, both of Dearing, Evelyn Nunn and Catherine Carpenter, both of Augusta, Louise Hair, Grovetown, and Mary Blackstone, Port Orange, Fla.; and six grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
Pallbearers will be Randy Radford, Johnny Radford, Gene Hair, Richard Adams, Raymond Adams and Lamar Crowell.
Memorials may be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
