A missing Wilkes County teen-ager who spent a cold, rainy night outdoors was recovering Thursday after rescuers found him walking along a logging road near Taliaferro County's Raytown community.
Benjamin Davis, 14, of Washington, Ga., had gone hunting with a companion Wednesday afternoon on a large parcel of land in Taliaferro County, said Wilkes County Fire Chief Allan Poss.
He was reported missing after he failed to meet his companion at a designated location after dark. More than 100 searchers combed the area all night and into Thursday morning.
Searchers included personnel from fire, emergency management, sheriff and police agencies from Wilkes and Taliaferro counties; Georgia's Emergency Management Agency; the Department of Natural Resources; the Red Cross; and other organizations. Many were volunteers from the community.
Blake Thompson, director of Wilkes-Taliaferro EMS, said the youth was cold and wet but appeared to be uninjured. Benjamin was taken to Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington to be treated for mild hypothermia.
The missing teen's father, Mike Davis, is police chief of Washington, in Wilkes County.
