Raising three children alone is a daunting task.
But it becomes even more difficult when a job is lost, the bills are stacking up, and Christmas is around the corner.
This situation faces an Augusta man who writes to the Empty Stocking Fund for help so his two daughters, ages 8 and 10, and his son, 13, can get basic necessities.
They don't need toys this year, he writes, because they don't have coats to protect them from the winter weather.
"I'm a father who is doing the best he can to make ends meet," he writes.
He says he struggles to figure out how to do this and how to make his unemployment check feed the entire family.
But he will be able to buy his children winter coats, thanks to his neighbors that have contributed to the fund.
Through contributions to the Empty Stocking Fund, the family will receive gift certificates at local Kroger stores for food and Kmart stores for necessities.
Contributions can be sent to Empty Stocking Fund, P.O. Box 1928, Augusta, GA 30903-1928. Or visit augustachronicle.com/ emptystocking to make your donations to the Empty Stocking Fund online.
Applications for the fund are still being accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.
