CHARLESTON, S.C. - Mr. Joseph Edward Lofton, 83, died Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2000.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Andrew Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery, James Island.
Mr. Lofton, a native of Charleston, had retired as a travel consultant and from the Charleston Naval Shipyard. He was a volunteer at the Franke Home, Lutheran Retirement Home and Lutheran Brotherhood and made wooden toys to donate to the Medical College of Georgia Children's Medical Center and the Medical University of South Carolina Children's Hospital. He was an honorary member of Charleston Elks Lodge 242, where he was a former exalted ruler and selected to the Elks State Hall of Fame in 1996, and a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church, Johns Island.
Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth Barnett Lofton; three daughters, Barbara McCormick and Esther Crandall, both of Charleston, and Sally Simkins, Augusta; a brother, John Harold Lofton, Charleston; and eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 216, Johns Island, SC 29457; or to the Elks Foundation, 1113 Sam Rittenberg Blvd., Charleston, SC 29407.
The family will receive friends from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. today at J.Henry Stuhr Funeral Home, Calhoun Street, with an Elks memorial service at 7 p.m.
