THOMSON - Mr. Romie Powell, 88, of Central Road, died Monday, Nov. 27, 2000, at his residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. today at Thomson First Baptist Church with Dr. James C. Elder Jr. officiating. Burial will be in Savannah Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Powell, a native of Jefferson County, had retired as a businessman and was a former city councilman, commissioner of McDuffie County and volunteer firefighter and fire chief. He was a member of Thomson Veterans of Foreign Wars and Thomson First Baptist Church, where he was a member of Men's Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife, Linnie Powell; three sons, Patrick L. Powell, Jacksonville, Thomas Powell, Thomson, and William R. Powell, Gordonsville, Va.; a daughter, Grace Noonan, Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Bobbie Cato, Greensboro; and six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Chris Powell, Chuck Powell, Ed Darby, Steve Powell, Rodney Price and Chris Powell.
