Club led by RW Joel Irwin, ninth in the ECHL in scoring (eight goals-18 assists-26 points) and D Jamie Sokolsky, who leads all ECHL defensemen in scoring (10-10-20). ... As is the case with all Brubaker teams, the Gens are a physical lot, led by D Trevor Gillies, third in the ECHL with 99 PIMs, and LW Kris Waltze, second in the league with 11 major penalties.

NOTEBOOK

Welcome aboard

Throw him to the fire. Erasmo Saltarelli can take the heat.

The new Augusta Lynx goalie looks forward to his debut tonight against his former club, as the Greensboro Generals come to town less than 48 hours after trading Saltarelli to Augusta for Chris Thompson and J.R. Prestifilippo.

"There's no pressure really to playing them," the 26-year-old Montreal native said. "What's tough is we're playing against a guy (Thompson) that everyone really likes and who contributed quite a bit to this team."

Over the summer, Saltarelli was signed by the NHL's Chicago Blackhawks after a strong year with the B.C. Icemen, a United Hockey League team based in Binghamton, N.Y.

After attending his first NHL training camp with Chicago, Saltarelli ended up with Greensboro, where he expected to share the duties with veteran Sergei Naumov.

Despite posting better numbers - he was 4-2-0 with a 3.03 goals-against average in eight games with the Generals - Naumov has played the bulk of the minutes of late, and Saltarelli was the odd-man out.

"You've got to earn the respect of the team and the fans and prove yourself. I want to go out and show the guys here I want to win and will do all I can to help the team."

Greensboro coach Jeff Brubaker said the Lynx are getting a quality goaltender in Saltarelli.

"It was a situation here where Naumov needed to play a lot to be effective," Brubaker said. "It was nothing against Erasmo. He's a very good goaltender. We had a need on our team and had two No. 1 goaltenders, so we were able to trade one of them and improve our hockey club."

One-timers

When asked Tuesday whether he planned to start Prestifilippo tonight against his former club, Brubaker laughed and said, "No comment." ... The Lynx released defenseman Jeff McKercher, who was on loan from the NHL's Dallas Stars, and forward Bob Thornton, to make room for the return of center Rob Bonneau, and defenseman Wes Swinson, who was on the IR with a hand injury.
