Jeff Padgett is running for Richmond County's District 8 School Board seat. Although I do not live in his district, I have worked with him for many years. He has the attributes and qualifications needed to serve on this very important board. I hope District 8 voters will consider electing him for the following reasons:
He was born, reared and lived all his life in south Augusta. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Georgia Southwestern University after graduating from Gracewood Elementary and Hephzibah High School. His three sons attend Richmond County public schools. He has been a PTA member for 12 years. His wife, Candy, has been a professional educator for 21 years.
He was an infantry squad leader, First Air Cavalry Division, in Vietnam. He is a graduate of the Chamber of Commerce Leadership Augusta Class of 1987. He has served as baseball coach for both the Richmond County Recreation Department and the Family Y.
Mr. Padgett has been employed at Gracewood State School and Hospital for 25 years, where he has served in management, client care and training. Through these experiences, he has acquired a thorough understanding of leadership, teamwork and a working knowledge of student and family special education needs.
As vice-president on the board of directors of Gracewood Federal Credit Union for 15 years, Mr. Padgett has demonstrated broad knowledge of fiscal affairs and responsibilities. He has the initiative, dedication, skills and knowledge of how to serve on boards.
So, District 8 voters, please elect Mr. Padgett to the Richmond County Board of Education. You will be doing all your kids and their families a big favor.
