A look at the No. 1 Georgia Southern Eagles (6-1, 5-0 Southern Conference) four days before play The Citadel (2-5, 1-3) in Charleston, S.C., on Saturday (2 p.m.):

Georgia Southern's victory over Appalachian State on Saturday gave the Eagles a little more distance between itself and No. 2 Portland State in this week's Sports Network poll. The Eagles lead Portland by 76 points.



Key stat:

Georgia Southern fullback Adrian Peterson became the first back in school history to rush for 1,000 yards in three straight seasons with his 187-yard performance on Saturday.


Penalties are still a concern for Georgia Southern. During Saturday's contest, the Eagles had two touchdowns called back by penalties, one on pass interference and another on an illegal formation. In its past three games, Georgia Southern has had eight touchdowns overturned.
