I read with understanding the letter written by Andy Chandler, Oct. 2. My mother, who has Alzheimer's Disease, lives with me. You can sense the bitterness in his letter. I am sorry for his experience.
My mother has been with me for a year and the help I get from the Alzheimer's Association is priceless. I have a caring person staying with her while I work. She takes care of everything my mother needs and relieves me of the burden.
While it may be true that friends vanish, I have made many new friends at the Alzheimer's Support Group. These are friends who understand, listen and offer meaningful advice. I don't think I could have made it this far without them.
I invite Mr. Chandler to come to the next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 10, at 7 pm at the Resource Center on Aging in Daniel Village. He may be able to offer advice to those of us who are living with this disease.
