Divers search pond for possible weapon

A search for clues in the death of a Burke County man continued Sunday as investigators searched a murky waterway for a possible weapon.

The Burke County Emergency Management Agency dive team searched a pond near where Theodore Hicks, 29, was found dead Friday, Burke County Sheriff Greg Coursey said Sunday.

"They were out there looking for the weapon used in this murder," Sheriff Coursey said.

Mr. Hicks' body was found behind a burning home off Munnerlynn-Alexander Road in a secluded area of the county. Sheriff Coursey said the victim's feet and legs were burned and that he appeared to have been shot.

Saturday, Waynesboro police arrested Willie Allen, 17, charging him with murder. His cousin Ronnie Allen, who is in his 20s, later surrendered to police and was charged with concealing the death of another.

It is not known how or whether Mr. Hicks and Willie Allen were acquainted or who owns the house where Mr. Hicks' body was found.

The Allen cousins are being held in the Burke County jail in Waynesboro without bond.
