One dies when Jeep flips

AIKEN - A South Aiken High School senior was killed after he flipped his jeep in an early morning accident Sunday, Aiken County Coroner Sue Townsend said.

John Ryan Peacock, 17, of 106 Loganberry Court, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:30 a.m. by deputy coroner Bo Reardon. Three other male passengers also were ejected from the jeep and taken to the Medical College of Georgia.

Fernando Bush, 17, and Brendon Czarneck, 17, suffered minor injuries, said Lance Cpl. R.K. Hughes of the South Carolina Highway Patrol. The fourth male's name will not be released because he is under 17, he said.

No one was wearing a seat belt in the jeep, which had a rag top and roll bar, the coroner said.

The accident happened at a curve on Greymare Hollow Road, near the Mrs. Townsend's driveway, she said. The jeep ran off the right side of the road, then swerved left and turned over twice, Lance Cpl. Hughes said.

A funeral will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Millbrook Baptist Church, 176 East Pine Log Road, in Aiken. Burial will be private.
