ATLANTA -- St. Louis goaltender Brent Johnson hardly played like a backup, and Atlanta goalie Damian Rhodes looked fully recovered from an ankle injury that sidelined him most of last season as the Thrashers and Blues played to a 1-1 tie in overtime Saturday.
Johnson stopped 24 of 25 shots in the final exhibition season game for St. Louis, which opens the regular season Thursday against Phoenix. Rhodes stopped 27 of 28 shots.
Bryan Adams put the Thrashers ahead 1-0 in the first period on a power play goal with assists from Herbert Vasiljevs and Frantisek Kaberle. Johnson stopped the first shot, but Adams swept in the rebound for his first goal of the preseason.
In the second period, the Blues' Jochen Hecht stole the puck at center ice, skated within 10 feet of the net and passed to Scott Young whose goal tied the game.
Atlanta opens the regular season at home Saturday against the New York Rangers.
