Most Augusta and Martinez residents probably don't know what the state Department of Transportation has planned for Davis Road.
The DOT plans to widen Davis Road and put a concrete median down the center. It also plans to purchase land from established businesses to widen the road.
I have owned two businesses on Davis Road since 1969. I disagree on the concrete median as it will severely affect my property and my business.
All businesses on Davis Road will be severely affected by the concrete median. People will have to drive several blocks and make a U-turn to get in the correct lane to enter each business.
The concrete median will block views of businesses and their signs. The widening and the concrete median may not affect you, but it will affect the rural nature of Davis Road and businesses you patronize.
When I moved to Martinez in 1961 I lived on a dirt road. Please speak out, we do not want Augusta, Martinez or Evans to look like a concrete jungle like Atlanta. Help keep our community as rural looking as possible.
Call DOT, your state senator and representative and tell them what you think.
Also, DOT is planning to put a concrete median down the middle of Washington Road. The concrete medians are costly, highly unattractive and are unnecessary. Please let your voice be heard. Petitions are being circulated to all Davis Road businesses. Please stop in and sign one.
