Mr. Jerry L. McElveen, 57, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2000, at University Hospital.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home, North Belair Road, Evans, with Dr. Al Cadenhead officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Park, Grovetown.
Mr. McElveen, a native of Florence, S.C., was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, during which he received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Vietnam Service Medal. He was a businessman and was a member of Hill Baptist Church.
The family said, "Jerry is remembered as a loving husband, a caring father and a devoted friend who was known to all for his strength, humor and wit."
Survivors include his wife, Brenda H. McElveen; a daughter, Stacey McElveen, Augusta; his mother, Mattie T. Singletary, Augusta; his brother, Larry McElveen, North Carolina; and two sisters, Diane Norvell, North Carolina, and Marceau Quick, Augusta.
Pallbearers will be Bill Bigham, Ralph Harrelson, Keith Carter, Bruno Ward, Charlie Webster and Ricky Godowns.
