Mass baptism held

Between 700 and 1,000 candidates will be baptized at the end of the 74th annual convocation for the United House of Prayer, 1269 Wrightsboro Road, at noon Sunday.

Some 3,000 to 5,000 members were expected for the weeklong gathering of the followers of Bishop C.M. "Sweet Daddy" Grace, the charismatic founder of the denomination, which has about 3 million members in 100 congregations. Its headquarters is in Washington.

Pumpkins for sale

Thousands of pumpkins are on sale at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 471 W. Martintown Road in North Augusta, between noon and 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, Oct. 7.

Hours move to 1-7 p.m. Sundays beginning Oct. 8 and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and Saturdays through Oct. 30. Proceeds benefit the organ and building funds and the Navaho Indians of New Mexico who grew the pumpkins.

Anniversary celebrated

McElmurray Tabernacle Baptist Church, Georgia Highway 56 North in Waynesboro, will celebrate its 100th anniversary at 2 p.m. Sunday. The Rev. Charles Utley will bring the message.

Anniversary show

Big Red and the Swanee Quintet promise to have folks on their feet during their 60th anniversary show at Bell Auditorium, 712 Telfair St., at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Doors open at 4 p.m. Tickets at the door are $18, $5 for age 11 and younger. Advance tickets are $16 at all TicketMaster locations.

Benefit held

Mike Kellogg of Valparaiso, Ind., host of Music Thru the Night on the Moody Broadcasting Network, will be the guest speaker during a banquet at the Gordon Club, Fort Gordon, at 7 p.m. Thursday.

Animal blessings

St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church, 219 York St. S.E. in Aiken, will have the annual blessing of the animals after the 5:30 p.m. Mass on Wednesday, the feast of St. Francis of Assisi.

All pets welcome as long as they are restrained.

Showcasing praise

The Revs. Charles and Maxine Whisnant, co-pastors of Freedom Fellowship Assembly, will play host to the first half-hour installment of Freedom Praise on Comcast Cable Channel 66 at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9.

The show will present testimonies and local gospel artists.

Concert offered

Performers on tour from the Southeastern Lutheran Youth Encounter will combine music and ministry in a concert at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 402 Aumond Road, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
