A look at the No. 2 Eagles (3-1, 2-0 Southern Conference) three days before playing host to VMI (0-4, 0-2) on Saturday at 1 p.m.:
Georgia Southern's average margin of victory in its series with VMI is 40 points. In seven meetings with the Keydets, the Eagles are averaging 47.3 points per game. Only one game, the 1996 contest that Georgia Southern won 20-17 in Statesboro, has been decided by less than 13 points.
VMI's Richard Holland, who returned a kickoff 100 yards for a touchdown against Furman last week, is third in the nation in kickoff returns with a 38.2 average.
Once again, the Eagle defense will have to gear up for another passing attack. The Keydets are fourth in the conference, averaging 214.2 yards through the air. Quarterback Joey Gibson is third in the conference in total offense, averaging 204.5 yards per game.
