Fishing tournament news

Open Team Tournament

Sept. 23, Little River Marina

Open Team Striper Tournament

Sept. 23, Dorn Boating & Fishing Complex

Hawe Creek, near McCormick, S.C.

Sponsored by the Clark Hill Striper Club and West Marine, entry fee is $80 per team with an optional $20 big fish pot. Tournament hours are safe light until 5 p.m. Creel limit is four fish and must be stripers and/or hybrids 18 inches or better in length. First place team will earn $1,000, second place team $500 and third place $250. The big fish pot will pay $500. Open Team Bass Tournament

Sept. 30, Fort Gordon Recreation Area

The tournament is being sponsored by the Augusta Marine Superstore and the Augusta Bassmasters. Entry fee is $60 per boat, with an optional $10 big fish pot. Payback is 80 percent, with the balance going to the foundation, benefiting the Georgia Chapter and the East Central Division. Tournament hours are 6:30 a.m., or safe light until 3 p.m. Contact person is Dr. Roy Altman at 863-5420.

Adult-Child Open Team Tournament

Sept. 30, Little River Marina

Each team must consist of a child 16 years old or younger and an adult. Entry fee is $40 per boat, with an optional $10 big fish pot fee. Payback is 80 percent -- one place per each 10 boats, and two big fish places (60 percent-40 percent split). Registration will be held at the marina from 6 a.m., to 7:30 a.m., on tournament day. Buck Ollerich, five bass, 14 pounds, 10 ounces. Darryl Barnett, five bass, 13 pounds. Bob Bailey, four bass, 11 pounds, 6 ounces. Big fish: Ollerich, 5 pounds, 9 ounces. Seven fishermen caught 24 bass weighing 52 pounds, 15 ounces and all were released alive.

Bart Blackburn and Mike Guilbeau, seven bass, 16 pounds, 3 ounces. Ron Brown and Dennis Bullard, seven bass, 14 pounds, 3 ounces. Kenny Miles and Kenny Miles Jr., seven bass, 13 pounds, 5 ounces. Big fish: Mike Andrews and Bobby Lariscey, 4 pounds, 7 ounces. Twenty-three boats in the field.

Entry fee is $30. Regular tournaments are sponsored by Chuck's Lakeside Marine, Willoughby Ford of Thomson, Ga., Sportsman's Link of Martinez, Rick's Paint & Body of Martinez and White Columns Inn. They will be held every Saturday from safe light until 1 p.m., until further notice. Tournaments will not be held when dates conflict with Clark Hill Committee events. The Classic, which features a $5,000 guaranteed first-place purse, will be held the last weekend of February from safe light until 4 p.m. Entry fee is $60 per team, $10 of which goes into the big fish pot. Anglers must fish a minimum of six SMOT events to qualify, or pay $200 to fish the Classic. For more information: Dennis Bullard, 541-0870.

Entry fee is $10 per member, $20 per non-member, optional $5 big fish pot, with a 60 percent payback. Registration is with the club prior to the tournament or 30 minutes before the event's start.
