I support Helen Minchew for Richmond County Board of Education District 10 at-large seat.
As a teacher, a parent, and a member of this community, I am greatly concerned about the direction in which our school system is headed. The people who occupy board positions now will determine the quality of our schools for years to come. I am confident that with Ms. Minchew on the board, all of us can feel assured that we have someone with experience and common sense representing us.
Ms. Minchew's experience stems from several areas. After graduating with a degree in sociology, she became a social worker with the Fulton County Department of Family and Children Services. She has also held various secretarial positions within the legal, medical, and manufacturing fields.
For five years, she owned a small retail business. She has volunteered her time and energy with her neighborhood homeowners' association and, most importantly, with the Parent Teacher Associations of her children's elementary, middle, and high schools.
Throughout all these endeavors, she has learned valuable lessons regarding financial matters and has developed management and organizational skills. She understands the roles that parents, teachers, and administrators must carry out in order to achieve academic goals.
On Nov. 7, please cast your vote for someone who can make a difference for Richmond County schools.
