THOMSON - Mr. Lemuel Reese "Byrd" Brooks Jr., 75, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2000, at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, Augusta.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Thomson First Baptist Church with Drs. James C. Elder Jr. and Leonard Dupree officiating. Burial will be in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Brooks, a lifelong resident of McDuffie County, was an Army veteran of World War II and had retired from BellSouth Co. He was a member of Thomson Lions Club and Thomson First Baptist Church, where he was a member of Men's Bible Class.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Brooks; three sons, Lem Brooks III, Dearing, Robert Thomas Brooks, Sparta, and Kenneth Aaron Brooks, Martinez.; a daughter, Penny Rogers, Birmingham, Ala.; four brothers, John G. Brooks and Jack D. Brooks, both of Dearing, James H. Brooks, Augusta, and Aubrey C. Brooks, Murfreesboro, Tenn.; two sisters, Joyce Hughes, Thomson, and Betty King, Jacksonville, Fla.; and eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Fred Perdue, Garrett Edmunds, Tom Mobley, Bobby Jones, Micky Chamineak and Tommy Phelps.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Thomson Lions Club and Thomson First Baptist's Church Men's Club.
Memorials may be made to Thomson First Baptist Church Family Life Center.
Friends may call at the residence or at Curtis Funeral Home.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
