Augusta's largest cable TV provider, Comcast Corp., will begin carrying the Turner South channel starting today, a Comcast spokesman announced Thursday.
Philadelphia-based Comcast had been negotiating with Turner Broadcasting System to carry the regional entertainment channel - which is broadcasting a large portion of Atlanta Braves games - since spring.
A breakthrough in those talks came Thursday, but all details were not immediately available.
"A deal was signed, but I don't know what all went on behind it," Comcast spokesman Bill Botham said.
Turner South will be broadcast on Channel 71, most likely beginning early to mid-afternoon. The Atlanta Braves game begins tonight at 10:35.
Previously, the channel was only available in Augusta to satellite customers and Knology subscribers. Comcast serves more than 93,000 households in the Augusta area.
Many local customers had clamored for the channel because the network had an exclusive deal to carry more than three dozen Braves games. The network is the brainchild of Braves owner and Time Warner Chairman Ted Turner.
