Holtz football clinic attracts women

COLUMBIA -- Nearly 700 women were on hand Saturday for the Lou Holtz Football Clinic for Ladies at Carolina Coliseum and Williams-Brice Stadium.

Holtz addressed the group for almost an hour, covering such topics as his team's goals for winning, to offensive and defensive philosophies, to the team's schedule during the upcoming preseason football camp.

Holtz told the women "that your enthusiasm and loyalty are unbelievable."

"The women that follow our program are among the most supportive and loyal fans we have. Their interest has been overwhelming and I think the turnout for this clinic reinforces that."

The clinic participants heard from various football staff members, players and game officials who reviewed football rules.

The Gamecocks coaching staff begins its annual "hideaway" today when they begin to fine-tune the preseason practice plans. The South Carolina freshman report Aug. 6, with the varsity squad reporting Aug. 10.
