WAYNESBORO, Ga. - Mr. Thomas Leonard Mitchell Sr., 68, of Academy Avenue, died Tuesday, July 11, 2000.
Memorial services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church with Dr. David Carter and the Rev. Billy Key officiating. A private burial will be at a later date.
Mr. Mitchell, a native of LaGrange, had retired as owner of Tom Mitchell Insurance after 44 years and served on the board of directors of Magnolia Manor and was former president of Waynesboro Exchange Club. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, where he was former chairman of the board and teacher of Scrap Gresham and Brinson-Coleman Sunday school class.
The family said: "Mr. Mitchell came to Burke County 44 years ago as a teacher and coach. As a businessman and community leader, he helped shape the lives of countless young men and women."
Survivors include his wife, Jane Allen Mitchell; two sons, Thomas Leonard Mitchell Jr., Waynesboro, and Stiles Allen Mitchell, Baton Rouge, La.; a daughter, Frances Ann Mitchell Evans, Thomson; and five grandchildren.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Scrap Gresham and Brinson-Coleman Sunday school classes.

Friends may call at the residence.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the residence.
