Falcons sign running back, cut QB Richardson

SUWANEE, Ga. -- The Atlanta Falcons on Friday signed running back Ron Rivers and waived quarterback Wally Richardson.

Rivers, who played with the Detroit Lions for six seasons, ran for 295 yards on 82 carries and caught 22 passes for 173 yards last year. He started the first six games before missing nine games with a fractured right ankle.

Richardson was signed as a free agent last December by the Falcons. He was a seventh round draft choice of Baltimore in 1997.
