The wait is over.
While at Fort Monroe, Va., on Wednesday, Maj. Gen. Peter M. Cuviello, commanding general at Fort Gordon received the news that the U.S. Senate had confirmed his promotion to lieutenant general.
"It's a relief knowing the plan we had can be executed on time," Maj. Gen. Cuviello said.
At 9 a.m. July 11 at Barton Field, the command of Fort Gordon will pass from Maj. Gen. Cuviello to Brig. Gen. John P. "Pat" Cavanaugh.
"At the change of command, I will be promoted, and then they will push me out the door," Maj. Gen Cuviello said with a laugh.
He will take over as director of Information Systems for Command, Control, Communications and Computers with the Office of the Secretary of the Army at the Pentagon in Washington on Aug. 1. Brig. Gen. Cavanaugh is scheduled to arrive at Fort Gordon on Wednesday.
He has been serving as commanding general and deputy chief of staff for Information Management for the 5th Signal Command, U.S. Army Europe and 7th Army in Germany. He is awaiting Senate approval for his promotion to major general.
After the ceremony, there will be a reception at the Gordon Club to greet Brig. Gen. Cavanaugh and say farewell to Maj. Gen. Cuviello.
