Columbia County police arrested a 19-year-old Appling man late Wednesday for the murder of a man whose body was found in an abandoned well Tuesday.
Rodney Willingham of 330 Beehive Drive was charged with the murder of Franklin Roosevelt Reid, 60, who lived nearby on Beehive Drive, with his bond not yet set, said sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.
Mr. Reid had been reported missing since Saturday. His body was found wrapped in bed clothes at the bottom of a backyard well off of Tom Bartles Road. In the well alongside Mr. Reid's body, Capt. Morris said investigators found a knife, which has been linked to Mr. Willingham.
"Although an arrest has been made, the case remains open," Capt. Morris said. "And we have not ruled out additional arrests."
