Mr. William Madison Darby Jr. died Monday, May 22, 2000, at University Hospital.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at Covenant Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard Short officiating. Burial will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in Beaufort National Cemetery, Beaufort, S.C.
Mr. Darby, a native of Beaufort, had retired as vice president of Georgia Iron Works Co., Western Division, and was an Army veteran of World War II, where he had been an member of Darby's Rangers. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels of Greater Augusta Presbyterian Ministries. He was a charter member of Covenant Presbyterian Church, where he was a deacon and former treasurer.
Survivors include his wife, Mary R. Darby; a son, Dickson Regan Darby, Charleston, S.C.; a daughter, MaryAnne Darby Payne, Beaufort; a brother, Joseph V. Darby, Las Vegas; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be members of an Army honor guard.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the residence.
Platt's Funeral Home, Crawford Avenue, is in charge of arrangements.
