The Richmond County Sheriff's Department was working with investigators in Atlanta on Monday to catch the suspect wanted in the shooting death of one man and the wounding of another.
Rolland Elliot, 38, of Lithonia, Ga., is wanted on murder charges in the shooting death of Thomas Pruitt, 27, of Augusta. Another man, Rico Green, 25, was wounded in the same shooting outside an apartment on Shalimar Drive on Sunday, said Maj. Ken Autry of the Richmond County Sheriff's Department.
An argument preceded the shooting after Mr. Pruitt walked into an apartment without knocking, Maj. Autry said. After being told to leave the party, Mr. Pruitt told Charles Brown, a man inside the apartment, to come outside.
After a brief argument, Mr. Brown knocked Mr. Pruitt to the ground with a punch, Maj. Autry said. Mr. Elliot then walked up, pulled a gun and began shooting, he said. Mr. Pruitt was shot in the chest while he was still on the ground, he said.
Mr. Green told investigators he was shot in the side after he ran toward Mr. Elliot, Maj. Autry said. Mr. Green was in fair condition at Medical College of Georgia Hospital. Police suspect Mr. Elliot left Sunday night and headed back to Lithonia, Maj. Autry said.
Mr. Elliot is charged with murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
Mr. Brown and two other men, Ronal Warren and George Curtis, were charged Sunday with giving false statements in a government related matter.
