CHARLESTON, S.C. -- Georgia Southern junior shortstop Dustin Langley hit a two-run double in the top of the 10th inning to lead the Eagles to a 5-3 win over The Citadel in Game 11 of the Wendy's/Pepsi Cola Southern Conference Tournament on Friday evening.
Georgia Southern (37-21) now advances to Saturday's tournament championship game scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. The Citadel (39-19) falls into the loser's bracket and will play Furman, a 15-3 winner over College of Charleston, at noon today in an elimination game. The winner will play the Eagles for the title.
The Eagles broke a 3-3 tie with two runs in the top of the tenth inning. J.R. Revere led off the inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by John Durik. After Matt Easterday was intentionally walked, Scott Henley flew out to right. Langley then sliced a 1-1 pitch into the right field corner that scored Revere and Easterday to give GSU a 5-3 lead.
Georgia Southern reliever Jason Cadenhead retired the Bulldogs in order in the bottom of the 10th to secure the win. Cadenhead earned the victory to raise his record to 7-3 with two innings of hitless relief.
For The Citadel, the loss snaps a 10-game SoCon Tournament winning streak and a 23-game winning streak at Riley Park. The Bulldogs had won 21 consecutive games against Southern Conference opponents.
