SPARTANBURG, S.C. - Dr. Preston Dewitt Conger, 86, died Friday, May 12, 2000, at Skyland Health Center.
Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Westview Cemetery with the Revs. Ronnie Wills and Richard Lanning officiating.
Dr. Preston, a native of Tift County, was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a captain in the Army Medical Corps in the European Theater. He had attended Emory University and had trained at Municipal Hospital, Tampa, Fla., Spartanburg General Hospital and Walter Reid Medical Center, Washington. He was chief of staff of Vereen Memorial Hospital. He was former president of Colquitt County Medical Society and PTA and former chairman of Board of Stewards at First United Methodist Church. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and Lions Club. He was team physician for Moultrie Packers football team.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Nell Morgan Conger; a son, Preston Conger Jr., Aiken; three daughters, Betty Camp, Spartanburg, Nell Lucius, Greenville, and Nancy Bell, Dalton, Ga.; a brother, Henry Jackson Conger, Norfolk, Va.; a sister, Elizabeth Harris, Tifton, Ga.; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 757, Moultrie, GA 31775.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Monday at First United Methodist Church.
