Mr. Robert Hugh Sumner Sr., 70, died Tuesday, May 9, 2000, at University Hospital.
The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Marks Baptist Church with the Rev. Hal Hodgens officiating. Burial will be in Bellevue Memorial Gardens, Grovetown.
Mr. Sumner, a native of Wrightsville, had retired as an insurance salesman and agent. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a member of Anderson Lodge 243, Free and Accepted Masons, American Legion Post 205 and Marks Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah E. Sumner; eight sons, David Hattaway, Walterboro, S.C., Jimmy Hattaway and Gary Sumner, both of Augusta, Kenneth H. Sumner, Evans, Steve Sumner, Waycross, Robert Hugh Sumner Jr., Dearing, Joe A. Sumner, Grovetown, and Terry Sumner, Martinez; a daughter, Charlotte Sumner, Evans; four brothers, Edward Sumner and Lewis Sumner, both of Wrightsville, Fred Sumner, Hardwick, and Curtis Sumner, East Dublin; a sister, Margaret Coleman, East Dublin; and 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Sumner, Robert Sumner III, Steve Sumner Jr., Wayne Hattaway, George Sumner, Ben Sumner and Michael Sumner.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 9 p.m. today at Platt's Funeral Home, North Belair Road.
