Straps, straps and more straps are "in" for summer, BCBG ladies shoe designer Karen Handley says.
"Anything with straps and anything that has bright, bold colors is what people will be wearing," the New York designer says.
Ms. Handley says this year's ladies shoe fashions straddle the line between dainty and comfortable.
"The modern woman is looking for comfort, but at the same time she wants something that looks feminine," Ms. Handley says. "So it's OK to see someone with flat black sandals, and it's also very reasonable to see them with a strappy shoe."
Another hot shoe trend this summer is python-print shoes.
"Any color -- the brighter the better," says Damitra Cohen, director of women's public relations at Donna Karan.
But trying to find Donna Karan python-print shoes in Augusta may prove harder (and more costly) than catching an actual python.
Prices for designer shoes can range from $120 to $5,000. Lucky for us, most department stores and discount retailers carry styles that mimic the top fashion designer shoes for a fraction of the price.
For example, a pair of flat black leather Tommy Hilfiger thong sandals sell for $110. However, a pair of nearly identical-looking shoes at Payless Shoesource sell for $14.99.
"If you can get something for less, why wouldn't you?" says Payless Shoesource customer Amanda Bartelli. "I can't afford to pay $200 or $300 for a pair of shoes that may be out of style in a couple of months."
Here are nearly a dozen styles for spring shoes. Some are from New York designers, while others are from local department stores and discount shoe stores. See if you can match each shoe to its price.
