WASHINGTON -- Chris Whitney scored 19 points as the Washington Wizards beat Atlanta 108-98 Saturday night to extend the Hawks' losing streak to a season-high six games.
Richard Hamilton scored 16 points, Mitch Richmond added 15 and Jahidi White had 13 points and 14 rebounds for Washington, which stretched Atlanta's road losing skid to a franchise-record 11 games. The Wizards have won two straight at MCI Center and eight of 11 overall.
Alan Henderson led Atlanta with 22 points. Dikembe Mutombo had 10 points and nine rebounds but spent much of the night jawing with the officials.
Mutombo drew a technical foul from Joe DeRosa with 22.7 seconds left in the third quarter while standing motionless and silent over White, who had fallen at his feet while scrambling for the ball.
Washington had seven players in double figures and never trailed after Gerard King hit a jump-hook 25 seconds into the game.
The Hawks got as close as 19-16 on a three-point play by Jim Jackson with 4:02 left in the first period, but the Wizards scored the quarter's final 13 points and Whitney's 3-pointer as time expired produced a 32-16 lead.
Hamilton came off the bench in the second quarter and scored 10 points in the 5:32 before halftime. The Wizards led by as many as 23 on Aaron Williams' basket 1:34 before intermission.
Henderson had eight points during a 12-4 run midway through the third quarter, but the Hawks could only cut the lead to 72-59.
